Of the Millennium Mill
DEsign
connecting west to east
Using a large multi-functional pedestrian bridge to connect the western and eastern areas of the site, separated by the dock water ensures that the whole area can be considered 'walkable'. This is important both in terms of 'place' making as well as the sustainability and impact that the development has on the overall environment and climate change.
Footfall and movement through the site are vital for the success of the businesses and workshops that we are provising space for on the ground floor of Millennium Mills.
The inspiration for this large multi-use pedestrian bridge the connection through the site is the design by inForm Architects as shown in the image to the right.
The boardwalk design includes gardens, spaces for sculptures, a sundeck, outdoor seating, and even a built-in café. The bridge will integrate with existing and planned public realm and green space along the waters edge footpath and the main pedestrian entrance to the site which connects to the DLR station.
Ensuring a view that runs through from the DLR station to the water's edge creates interest and a destination creating a natural movement through the site and keeping people within the area.
